domande

I filed my petition for divorce today. A part of me was a little sad, but the other part of me was excited to begin this new life. I needed to ask those questions. I just had to. The answers may have been evident, but it was nice to be reassured of them.

My birthday came and went this weekend. I tried to enjoy it as much as I could, but I still can't get over the fact that my sister is hurting and I'm the cause. I don't know if we/she can get passed this, but I'm gonna try my hardest to make it right.

Don't get me wrong, brunch at Takoba was nice. Opening my gift at the hill was fun. The Sound of Music at Zilker then dinner at Elizabeth's were magical! But I'm sorry I didn't enjoy myself like I should have. I appreciate everything that went into Saturday night.

la conversazione

Wednesday Maund said, "ok, let's talk." I said okay. After all was said and done he said he just wanted to know what was going on with me and that he wasn't prepared for this. He said he wasn't expecting me to say I wanted a divorce. He figured that I was unhappy, but that was the last thing on his mind. He said that he wasn't gonna force me and that if I wanted to leave, he wasn't gonna stand in my way. He cried and was really sad and yet we slept in the same bed that night.

Thursday he was still at the house when I woke up which was unusual, but he had been hanging out downstairs. He called in sick and was so sad, so mopey, that it made me cry. When I got in the car I looked for Oct <3 and Sondre Lerche really lifted my spirits. In the first 10 bars it got me excited about you and about the future. Work was tough and all I wanted to do was call you becos I knew you were worried.

Well, the day came and went and I was okay for the most part. The drive home was good, too, and  my mood was good until I pulled up to the light before my street. I got sad suddenly and was still sad pulling into the driveway. When I opened the door all the windows were closed, the curtains drawn, it was dark. Maund was still in the same place I had left him that morning. I walked over and checked on him and said 'hey.' I had to run upstairs not only to change out of my work clothes, but mostly becos I couldn't contain how sad I was to have caused him such sadness. I just started bawling and cried into a heap of clothes to muffle my sobs. I walked back downstairs and opened all the windows, the curtains, the patio screen, and then stepped outside to play with the dogs. Maund finally emerged out from under the blanket/pillow cave he burrowed himself into and I apologized for making him feel so sad. He said he had been thinking all day and decided that he wasn't gonna give up without a fight. I told him it wasn't necessary. He said he wanted to see me happy and after more discussion the mood felt a little lighter.

Yuni called to see if she could stop by and bring Keegster's GRE books. She ended up staying for 3 hours and we all just sat in the the living room talking and laughing and just chatting about other stuff. Things felt normal for just a moment and didn't realize how tired I felt until she left and just thought it would be better to go to bed. I was exhausted from the day's events. We still slept in the same bed and he asked me why I used a spray on my pillow. It was the Sleep spray from Bath & Bodyworks which has really helped me relax recently. Probably moreso now since I gave you the same stuff. It calms my brain.

Today Maund took the day off becos his folks were driving in from Harlingen. My phone was on silent after you called so I didn't see his text asking if I wanted to have lunch. My eye was getting worse so I made an appointment with the eye doctor and at 1430 I called to let him know i was going to an appointment later. I was shocked when he said he was parked outside of my office and he had something for me. He had ordered a flower arrangement...really beautiful stuff...but it was huge and didn't want me to lug it around work and then back home. I went outside and told him they were nice and not at all necessary, and that he could take them back to the house and put them on the dining table. I could tell he felt a little embarrassed, probably since i didn't give him the reaction he was anticipating. In my mind I figured it was too late. Why not shower me with flowers on a regular basis or a couple of years back? Plus, I'm sure flowers are expensive when they're that beautiful. I was worried he spent too much and also, I don't think he's ever cared to know what kind of flowers I fancy. The sad thing is that I would have been content if he had picked a flower while walking the dogs and brought it home. I would have been fine with a leaf off a tree...then, not now.

The girls at work who don't really know me were swooning over the fact that I got flowers, but Boo eyed me and looked sad. She knows me even though we haven't known each other too long. When I told the girls that Maund was outside, Keegster went into protective bulldog mode and with her piercing blue eyes staring back at me asked, "Are you okay? What do you need?" I didn't need anything, I was okay. I stepped outside to thank him for the flowers, gave him a hug, and sent him home.

Turns out my eye is okay. Maund went over to his sister's house with his folks. I'm just relaxing and I feel perfectly fine! the windows are open, blinds are up, curtains are open flapping in the wind. I'm good, but his sadness overwhelms me becos I care a lot about his feelings.

These are things that I don't want to forget. Events that I know I survived and made me just a tiny bit stronger. These are things that I want to share with you.

livelli

Dr. K had me do some bloodwork this morning to check on the pregnancy hormone levels.
Nov 28 - 642
Dec 01 - 2444
Dec 03 - 3769
Dec 05 - 5973

Progress is slow. The numbers are supposed to double every two days.  Dr. K says he's hopeful if the numbers are growing by atleast 50%, but I can't help but feel scared.

What's wrong with me? I know he's hopeful, but I think I know too much.  I think I'm expecting too much that it's messing with my head. Am I ever gonna have my own child? Is this ever gonna happen for me? Am I that miserable that I'm doing this to myself? What's going on?

Today I am sad.
But today, all was not lost.

un giorno da dimenticare

So this is what it feels like to lose someone you love.
Wow.
Today, it feels like my world slipped away.
I know I shouldn't care or wonder where and how you are.
But I can't hide the hurt inside my broken heart.
But I know I'm not supposed to love you anymore.

"I'll find so many things to do that I won't have the time to think of her.
And then if she's still on my mind I'll try to drink enough to drown the hurt.
And if that don't work...
I'll think of something."

You know the funny thing is I still can't bring myself to bite my nails!  That's stupid, right? And all this because you made that remark.

I can't give you what you want right now.
I don't know why I thought I could?
I tried to plan things out, when what I should have done was jumped.
A leap of faith.
It's true, though, you're better off without me.
You can focus on school. Fall in love. Work in something you love! Have babies.
You deserve that more than anyone else I know.

Today you said "there's no one day."  I read that as we were closing up the office in Killeen and my heart dropped.  Yet another reason to add to the "Killeen cons" list.  Nothing good ever comes out of Killeen.
But I don't believe it.

"I didn't find a perfect moment, because I think that today was just about just having today. And I think that we are one of those couples with a long story, when people ask how they found each other.
I will see her every now and then, and...
Maybe one year she'll be with somebody, and the next year, I'll be with somebody,
and it's gonna take a long time...
And then it's perfect.
I'm in no rush."

The love that I have for you isn't something that will fade.  If anything, it's allowed me to see the changes I need to make. To be happier with myself. To be happier with life, eventhough it feels impossible right now.
I feel sad, lost, angry. At one point I was trying to rationalize things and thought, "He doesn't mean it.  It's like pushing someone away when you don't want to. Tough Love." But as I sit here writing, my heart is aching becos I know that's not the truth, is it?

One day, I hope to see you.
I hope to see you smiling back at me.
I hope to look into your kind eyes and see my good friend.
But until then, I'll wait.
Even if it takes another lifetime.

dieci anni fa

10 years ago I was a junior at UT.  I was living in my very first apartment with 2 sorority sisters at Riverside Place with a great view of the Texas-shaped pool.

10 years ago I was getting ready for my Texas History class with Dr. Neil Foley.  I had just gotten out of the shower and turned on the TV to watch the Today show.  The images on included the World Trade Center with smoke billowing out.  I didn't think anything of it and there weren't really any captions, so I went about my business and got dressed.  I noticed that the image hadn't changed in a couple of minutes and stopped what I was doing to watch.  I didn't understand what was happening.  Was there a fire?  There's was tons of smoke.

10 years ago I called to my roommates, who for some odd reason didn't have a TV in the living room, and told them the tower was on fire.  It was a definitely a must watch moment.  I don't know if they were ignoring me or had other things to do, but as I sat in front of the TV on my bed I watched as the other tower was hit by a plane.  For a surprise attack, it was definitely well-documented.  The images of people falling and the towers crashing down are something you can't forget, no matter how hard you try.

Did you ever watch Signs with Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix?  There's a part where Phoenix is watching the alien sighting from Brazil being broadcast over the news and he's taken aback by the images.  I imagine that's what I did when I saw the tower get hit.  It was definitely surreal.

10 years ago I remember hearing a report that the Pentagon had been hit.
I immediately busted out my cellphone and dialed Zora.
No answer.
I left a message and then called Gina.
No answer.
Last resort, I called Lil Chris.
No answer.
My sorority sisters and ex had gotten fabulous internships in DC and decided to room together.  Their house was located a couple blocks from the Pentagon.  Eventually, someone called back and let us know that everyone was okay and a little shaken up.

10 years ago after what felt like hours, it was said that all air traffic was halted and people were to proceed with caution.  I didn't want to get an absence, so I decided to head to class.  I was worried that Austin would be a target considering that President Bush had recently taken office and was the former Governor of Texas. I don't know why I thought Austin would be a worthy target, but I did.  I jumped on the bus and kept an eye on the sky in case I saw any activity.  Nothing.  In passing by the Capitol, the gates were barricaded by state troopers.  No one was getting in or out.  I finally got to class at Garrison Hall and Dr. Foley announced that due to the events of that morning class would be cancelled.  I don't think I attended any of my other classes that day, either.  The rest of the day is  a blur, but I do remember feeling uneasy, unsettled, and scared.

After those events, stuff changed.
People changed.
The country changed.
And in a way, intelligence changed.
I don't mean reconnaissance; well it definitely did.
I mean ignorance skyrocketed.

I remember being able to drive through the Capitol grounds to get to class.  Especially, if I was in a hurry, it helped to shave off a good five minutes.  Since September 11, 2001, only senators and representatives are able to drive on to the property.  I've also heard from photographers that taking pictures has become slightly more constricted due to worries of military and government intelligence.

I remember there was a radio ban on certain songs.  o.O you ask?  The one that sticks out in my mind is Drowning Pool.  They had a pretty popular song the year before called "Bodies" and it was banned becos the song starts out:

Let the bodies hit the floor.
Let the bodies hit the floor.

Let the bodies hit the floor.
     Let the bodies hit the...FLOOR!

Why is it that the Arts have to suffer in times of tragedy? If anything, it's a means of healing and coping. It's medicine for the soul. It just seems really backwards to me.

So what am I doing 10 years later?

September 11, 2011, at midnight, Maund and I, George and Kiera, and Maund's parents were huddled around the kitchen table talking about random things and enjoying BBQ, sweets, and drinks.  Earlier, my brother-in-law, Isaac, had passed out in his chair at the table.  As a drunk he has kick ass balance.  My sister-in-law was sprawled out in all her pregnant glory on the couch dozing in and out of sleep.  My kids were surrounding the table waiting for food scraps.

This morning I slept in till 09:00.  Once downstairs and connected to the internet, I realized that I had missed all the 9/11 coverage from the early morning.  I honestly forgot how early I would wake up for the class and that these events all happened before 10:00 10 years ago.

I think Maund and I are finally gonna tell his folks what's been going on with us and our losses.  Not to make them sad, but to include them more in our lives.  I already had the chance to tell  my parents the day after my birthday party, and honestly, a little weight was lifted off my shoulders when I did.  Maybe this is what we need for some closure.

For those who spent the night, we feasted on breakfast fare and no one mentioned 9/11.  I don't think anyone remembered and I didn't feel like bringing it up, either.  For the rest of the day I may read and write.  Also, no memory could be complete without talking to you. That's one thing that I'd like to remember when someone asks me, "So, what did you do 10 years after the tragedy of 9/11?"

I talked to you. <3

malinconica

16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom are just a couple of my guilty pleasures.  I HEART reality TV! Last night was 16 & Pregnant: Adoption Special and I was stoked becos earlier I had spent a little over 4 hours in an Adoption Resources training for work.  It's interesting that in all the seasons of these shows, only 3 cast members had chosen adoption.  One cast member had a scheduling conflict and wasn't on the show and the two that did attend were on different ends of the spectrum.  I mean, there was one girl who was completely confident that she made the right decision and takes pride in the fact that her daughter is with a great couple.  The other girl stated that she regret her decision and wondered why no one stopped her and goes on to ask if no one thought she could do it by herself?  Well...she chose to do a kin adoption and a month after relinquishing her rights she calls her aunt and uncle and asks for the baby back.  She then goes on to care for the baby for a minute and gives her back to the aunt and uncle.  It goes to show that a teen can't understand that permanency is best for a baby.

But in watching this special it was heartbreaking to see that these girls were experiencing such a grief at such a young age.  Another section of the special showed how there is a support group for teen mothers who have chosen adoption.  It got me thinking and I started doing a search for support groups here in Austin for myself.  I figured a good resource was The Bump since it covers all aspects of pregnancy.  What I didn't consider was that the last time I had visited this site was when I was pregnant.  So when I logged on I was greeted with a message in happy, obnoxious writing exclaiming "YOU'RE 22 WEEKS PREGNANT!"  I about lost it. I immediately edited my profile and made a couple of changes to memorialize this loss.

Lilypie Angel and Memorial tickers

I had trouble getting to sleep and when I decided to go to bed I ended up crying into my favorite pillow.  I didn't want to wake my husband, plus he was already annoyed with work that he had brought home.  Seriously annoyed would be a better term.  I hate when he gets into these moods.

I feel alone. I know I'm not, but I can't help but feel so lonely.

nervosa e più arrabbiata

I was nervous going to see Dr. K Wednesday morning.  I had a 09:00 appointment to consult on our plan of action.  Dr. K mentioned that most consider one miscarriage a fluke, but when you have 2 in a row, you need to consider all your causes.

1. Hormonal imbalance - if I was lacking the necessary hormones, I would be put on vaginal medication supplemented with a baby aspirin to help blood flow.
2. Poor cell division - plain and simple...shit happens.
3. Environment/Lifestyle - hazardous environment, crazy heroin-chic lifestyle...not the case
4. Uterine abnormalities - fibroid, cysts, polyp, septum...surgical removal increases chances of fertility.

Last time we spoke, he mentioned performing a Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) or Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS).  The HSG is performed at a radiology center by injecting a contrast dye into the uterus.  It's supposed to give a good view not only of the uterus, but also the fallopian tubes.  The SIS is performed in the office by injecting sterile saline into the uterus and, at the same time, performing an ultrasound. The saline shows up as a black area in the sonogram and allows the doctor to view any abnormalities through that contrast.  And yesterday Dr. K made a good argument.  He said, "I would hate to start the process again and have another miscarriage knowing that it could have been prevented."

I went into this consult not knowing what to expect.  I thought he would sit me down and warn me about  another miscarriage and then prescribe Clomid again. That didn't happen.  I was antsy and blurted out, "Do you have time to do the SIS today? I have the day off and I don't mind waiting all day or leaving and coming back. My only concern is cost becos I now have a high deductible plan and I'm pretty sure they won't cover infertility."  I could see that he was speechless.  He asked if I needed to think about things and he didn't want to pressure me into any procedure. I told him I was eager to get started and that if this test would help me, us, go into this next pregnancy with a clear mind, then it was necessary.

He stepped out of the room and his mom came in to discuss finances.  Just as I suspected, my insurance didn't offer any coverage and I would have to pay the private pay fee of $450.  I was ready to pay it, but my first thought was, "I could have a first trimester abortion with IV sedation for the same cost as this ultrasound!" Once I laughed it off (in my mind) his mom discussed that since our doctors were good friends and since a close friend of theirs referred me that I would be getting a discount.  I was ever so grateful and hugged her and by now it was 10:00.  I waited in the lobby for 30 mins, but I could see that more and more patients were showing up for their appointments.  The receptionist asked if I could come back at 13:30 for the SIS.  I said sure and went home to eat some lunch.

This whole time, Maund had called in sick to work and was nice enough to take my car in for it's inspection...2 months overdue, hehehe. At home I briefed him on the consult and told him about the ultrasound at 13:30.  He offered to come with and I declined.  I was told I could drive myself home.  I decided to take 800mg of Ibuprofen at 12:45 and hoped for the best.

I arrived 10 mins early, just to be on the safe side and was put into an exam room to undress from the waist down.  I waited a little until Dr. K and his assistant came in.  I lied down on the exam table and had to sit my bottom near the edge.  He inserted the speculum, which was surprisingly uncomfortable, and that discomfort was unusual for me.  I never have any issues, but that day I guess I did.  Once the speculum was in and open he placed some betadine at the cervix along with a tiny balloon slash catheter.   After that was in place he removed the speculum and then inserted the ultrasound probe.  That's when the real fun began.  He started to inject the saline into my uterus and I felt some mild cramping.  It took all of 5 mins, but towards the end the cramping became moderate.  The whole time I kept on visualizing someone filling up a water balloon.  My uterus was a balloon getting inflated with water, except this balloon had nerves and a mind of its own and didn't want to inflate.  When it was all over, I sat up and had a waterfall coming out of my vagina.  Even before we began I asked, "So you're putting water in my uterus.  Are you gonna take it out?"  He chuckled and mentioned that some of the saline would absorb into the body if it escaped through the fallopian tubes, but the rest would drain afterwards and residual saline would also leak for the next day or two.

Dr. K and the assistant stepped out for a moment to let me get dressed and he came back to discuss the findings.  What he showed me was not what I was expecting.  I assumed my issues stemmed from some kind of hormone deficiency, not a mass in my uterus.  He showed me 3 uterine/endometrial polyps. Two were small and barely noticeable, then he showed me the one prominent polyp.  He explained that most polyps were benign and rarely cancerous, but if removed we would send a sample out for testing.  I wasn't too familiar with polyps so I asked what it was.  Was it a mass of tissue or more like a cyst filled with liquid? How do we get rid of them? Medications? Surgery? Once removed, will they grow back?  Have there been women who successfully carry a pregnancy with polyps?

Yes, it's a mass. If cancerous, a hysterectomy is performed. To remove polyps he suggests surgery, not a  D&C, but an outpatient day surgery under general anesthesia.  From what I understood, he would lasso the polyp and slice it off.  I pictured a tiny lasso made of piano wire.  I would be completely under and return to work the following day.  My restrictions would include nothing inserted vaginally for 2 weeks, then we could start medications and attempt conceiving once again.  Dr. K mentioned that the removal would increase my chances of a successful pregnancy.  He said, "I don't worry you won't get pregnant, we just need to keep you pregnant."

All this was just the consult and test.  I cried a little during the consult.  I cried a little during the results.  I now had to think about Dr. K's fees, facility fees, anesthesiologist fees.  What ball park am I looking at? $2,700 or more like $22,000? The ambulatory/surgical center gave me an estimate of ~$3,300, Dr. K said ~$1,400 but his mom said she would give me a discount, now I have to check with the anesthesiologist.

The other option is to take Clomid anyway and hope that I don't miscarry again.  But even with the surgery there's no guarantee that I won't miscarry.  There's no guarantee that I won't have to do the surgery again.  Most women who experience polyps are in their 40s and 50s.  I know I joke that I'm an old woman, but this really takes the cake!

I sobbed all the way home.  I sobbed when I saw my husband.  I sobbed for a good part of the afternoon until I cried myself to sleep.  I woke up shortly and watched TV and started feeling not so defeated and then dozed off again.  I woke up to Maund's phone ringing and all I heard was, "nothing, just watching TV...*silence*...tabrik," and he got up and walked out the back door.  I picked my head up and stared at the back door.  I waited awhile for him to come in and when he did he refused to look at me.  I asked, "what's up?" He said Ang, his sister, had called.  He hesitated badly and said, "I guess she's 8 weeks pregnant." I held it together as long as I could, but it was no use.  I cried and cried.  I was so angry! I saw red and other crazy colors. I eventually calmed down and called her back to tell her congrats, but she didn't pick up.

After awhile of over-thinking I got mad becos I just partied with her on Friday and she didn't say a goddamn thing!  If she had told me any other day prior to Wed, I would have been fine.  Why did she wait for the one day when I find out that my struggle to have a baby that began in 2008 still has no end in sight?!?!?! And why does she get to have the Feb/Mar/Apr baby I have been dying to have?  She knew very well that May/Jun/Jul were my target conception months!

I'M JUST SO ANGRY! Am I such a shitty person that this keeps on happening? Why? What did I do? What lesson am I supposed to learn?  Is this survival of the fittest? Are my genes not supposed to live on? I don't get it!!! What's the point? I told Maund I wanted a divorce.  I told him it would be best.  He could find someone with better genes and continue his legacy.  I told him it would probably be cheaper in the long run to adopt or be okay with the idea of being the spinster aunt and uncle.  I told him I didn't want a baby anymore.

He smiled and hugged me and said divorce was outta the question.  He said he wanted a baby with me and knew that so did I. He said adoption was way too expensive and didn't care if he had to apply for more credit cards or a loan or borrow against the house in order to have this surgery.  He said, "MAN UP! We're gonna have a baby, you just have to be optimistic!"

I just hate to be dependent on credit.  I wanted to pay down my debt and get a new car and then help my husband pay down his card. I don't want to delay things any more and it feels like a gigantic clock is ticking away the seconds.  Going along with Maund's advice and the macho theme, I guess if we're gonna do this, we're going balls out. There's no other way.

salvami

Today was supposed to be a great day.  How did it end up like this?  It started out mediocre.  I thought about waking you up, but I stopped myself.  I got ready for work and made breakfast.  I heard my texting ringer and I rushed to see if it was you, but it wasn't.

At work I enjoyed the silence of my office for a minute and then JayKay walked in.  I had delusions of getting a mountain of tasks done, but I wasn't able to focus.  I couldn't concentrate on any single task.  It took me all day to read over 6 policies; something I could have normally completed in an hour or two.  I was even inclined to ask if I could leave early. I didn't feel well at all and I remembered that JayKay and I recently decided we would ask staff to leave their personal lives at home.  I need to lead by example.  How can I expect others to take me seriously if I'm having trouble following these same rules?

Today my mind was "...gone, but I don't know where."  No joke.  It wasn't until after lunch that I realized yesterday I had designated a large task to myself to complete today.  No pussyfootin' around, I called Dr. K's office and asked what the next step would be?  I had some blood work done in May and was told that my pregnancy hormone levels had reached zero again.  That was exciting news to me at that time, until Dr. K instructed me to call back in a month for the next step.  I was so upset, but a month has gone by and I'm more than ready.  This is what I want.

After speaking with Dr. K's office it was decided that I will begin a Provera regimen.  That's a pill a day for 10 days.  I should start my period within 10-14 days and then call in for Clomid, I assume, that part wasn't discussed.

Besides not being able to focus, I received a letter from the state declining to pay an invoice I had sent regarding medical records.  I was just going off of direction from my higher-ups and I laughed becos I should have known better, but ah, these things happen.  I took me a good 20 minutes to fill out the affidavit they requested with the records.  It wasn't difficult to read, I just couldn't focus.

On the way home I blocked out the majority of the drive.  How did I get home in one piece?  I needed to stop by the pharmacy to pick up my medication, but it looked way too crowded and I went home instead. Dinner consisted of chili dogs: kosher dogs, grated cheddar, plush bun...nice, right? During my last visit to HEB I decided to try out a different chili.  Today was not the day to try new things.  Today was a day for comfort foods.  If you couldn't guess, the chili was a no go.  Another disappointment.

After dinner I left to pick up my meds and it turns out that half of the parking lot is under construction.  No worries, I don't mind parking a little further, I need the exercise.  Once I got to the pharmacy I was surprised to see that there was practically no line.  Normally there's a 30 minute wait just to talk tosomeone around this time! Not today.  The lady before me was in a motorized cart and took up both counters.  I was waiting patiently for her to move out of the way and 2 other people lined up behind me. Outta nowhere, this Spanish speaker approaches the counter and another pharmacy tech tends to her.  Turns out that she needs to pick up a prescription, too, but instead of having her wait in line like the rest of us, she goes before me.  Guess what, I speak Spanish, too! Maybe I wasn't in the mood to wait! Maybe I just want to get the hell out of there and continue this shitty day! The pharmacist tends to me and I end up speaking with the girl who skipped me.  She gives me this attitude.  Hey, I could have raised hell, but I waited.  I didn't complain out loud, but in my head I was yelling. She asks me to confirm my prescription and was getting ready to check me out, but I have a new insurance which she never bothered to confirm.  When I mention this she rolls her eyes and tells me it will take 5 minutes.  As I step aside to wait I can feel the tears coming on.  Was this the straw that broke the camel's back?  My eyes welled with tears and the customer behind me noticed and gave me a look of "aww, I understand" or "aww, it's okay" and I smiled slightly, averted my eyes and tried to think of happy things.  By now the pharm tech was ready, I paid and left.

I almost lost it at HEB, but instead I came home, changed into my pjs, curled up in bed and let a little stress go.  I don't have anyone to share this with.  That's a lie. I choose not to share this stuff.  That's why I have the entire worldwide web, an abyss of cyberspace where my thoughts can get lost. I choose not to share with people I know becos if you could really see inside my mind you'd wonder why I haven't been committed yet.

As I was getting ready for work this morning I went to the fridge to pick out my lunch.  I went to grab a Gatorade and BAM!...

8 Gatorade bottles staring me in the face with an expiration date of November 12, 2011...

the baby's due date.

My eyes swelled with tears.  (;_;)
                            I got frustrated. (>_<)
But it all comes back to disappointment. (,_,)

It's silly, I know.  I can't help it.

Today: no fetal heart tone :'(

"I'm sorry." That's the first thing I heard Dr. K say after much silence.  I knew it the minute I saw it on the ultrasound screen.  Plus, he was very quiet and concentrating way too hard.

CRL: 6.3 weeks, Sac: 7-8 weeks. No growth in the embryo since last week exactly, only the sac.

I couldn't say anything.  I was numb. I looked at my husband and I think he was in shock, too.

Dr. K left the room to let me get dressed.  I took one look at Maund and started bawling.  My cries were choked by my gasps for air and muffled by his shoulder.

Dr. K reentered and we spoke about everything.  He said I had 3 options of which I was already aware.  He offered to do a D&C with minimal curettage.  He said his preferred method was to use medication, and stressed that waiting for my body to do this naturally was not the best idea.  During my previous pregnancy nature kicked in quickly and I had no choice.  This time was different becos I had to decide what to do.  So Dr. K said to go home and think about things and call back with my answer before the end of tomorrow.

As much as I wanted to get this over with I decided that the D&C would not be an option.  For one, Dr. K is a great physician, but I think I would only ever trust our Dr. Massman with a procedure like this.  That means that I would have to be seen at my work and then the whole office would be up in my business.  I work 40 hours with my lovely ladies, but I want a little privacy every now and then.  That's another reason why I go elsewhere for all my other needs: gynecologist, allergist, general medicine, fertility. Scratch that.

I figured that I really want a baby.  I don't want to wait.  So waiting for my body to pass the pregnancy naturally could take anywhere from 10 days to a month.  Scratch that.

Medicines it is!  I know what to expect, but it doesn't make it any easier.

Just 7 days ago, we had gone in for an ultrasound and saw our baby wiggle a tiny bit.  We saw the heart beating and Dr. K even recorded and played the snippet of the heartbeat.  I was on top of the world and thought, "This is it!  It's finally it!"

FML.  Another loss.  Another disappointment.  Another failure.  A world of hurt.

una settimana

For one week I was the happiest person in the world.
For one week I envisioned a lifetime of happiness.
For one week we fantasized about a little “us.”

I found out on my day off that my HCG levels were D
                                                                                 R
                                                                                       O
                                                                                             P
                                                                                                 Ping.

I wasn't very far into the pregnancy, but my husband and I were ecstatic about finally becoming parents.  I knew that miscarriage in the first trimester was very common, but
I hoped it wouldn't be me.

So, what happened?
Well…the day after my birthday I needed a refill on a medication.  I had mentioned in passing to the nurse that my test was a faint positive, so in order to refill the medication I had to have quants drawn.  I had blood drawn in the morning and by 15:00, it was confirmed…the test was PoSiTiVe!  We would have known sooner, but the printer  at work was jammed.  It wasn’t till the afternoon that the floodwater of faxes came pouring through.  I wasn’t aware till later that a friend had seen the results and did me a favor by keeping it a secret…even from me.  I texted Maund, who was working on some tunes upstairs in the music room.  I walked over to the staircase and he walked over to the top of stairs.  We smiled at each other and he asked, “for reals?”  I confirmed it.  I ran upstairs and we cuddled on the couch in shock.  I was so excited; Maund was speechless.

Over the next couple of days I had additional quants drawn.  In that time we talked about a savings account and college funds.  We discussed maternity leave and insurance policies.  I searched for information on dietary needs, baby names, and nursery ideas.  It was finally happening…or so we thought.

I started spotting and didn’t think too much about it.  I knew it was normal to have a “period” or bleeding early into the pregnancy.  Wednesday; another blood sample.  Thursday, my day off, I get a call and was informed that the hormone levels were dropping.
I swear my <3
                       <3
                            <3
                                 <3 dropped, too.
I did my best to hold it together, but as soon as the call ended I fell apart.  I was alone.  I freaked out Bear.  I contemplated calling Maund, but I didn’t want to ruin his day.  I wanted to call someone, but no one knew.  I wanted to call my sister and my mom, but the last thing I wanted was to worry them.  And to make matters worse, during my errands that day I had purchased What to Expect When You’re Expecting at Half Price Books. I cried in the kitchen and on the couch.  I couldn't stand it so I drove around to get my mind off things.  I cried in the car, I cried in the store, I cried in traffic.  I came home and cleared out some stuff from my kitchen cabinets and went to donate it, I cried there, too. Driving around after getting the news I wanted someone to hit my car.  It was a rainy day and I figured someone would hit me.  I wanted someone to blame.  I wanted to be mad at someone.  Is that crazy?

That night I started bleeding. I cried with my husband. I tossed and turned all night and was anxiety ridden about what to expect.  Will it be like a period or will it be a little more painful?  I work at a gynecologist's office and I deal with these things day in and day out.  Why was this still so extremely difficult? The only thing that got me through that night was the sound of Maund’s heartbeat, which had gotten me through so many worries before, but still I quietly cried myself to sleep.

At work the next day, I was cooped up in the path lab.  I was thankful to be away from the hustle and bustle of a session day.  Still bleeding and my defenses up, I knew I had to be strong and work to get my mind off of things.  At that moment, Yvonne popped in to say hi and in seeing her kind face I lost it.  She was such a comfort, even if she doesn’t know it.  It was such a relief and a release.

I don't claim to have had a bond with my baby just yet, I don't claim to know the pain of the loss in the 2nd or 3rd trimester, but how can I be soooo sad?  I go about my day as normal, I’m happy but every now and then it hits me. The sadness comes and goes, but for the most part I can fight it back.  I cried a couple of times afterwards and my husband didn’t know what to say.  I asked him how he felt and he just keeps repeating, “you said it was common early in the pregnancy.”  My heart hurts and I feel like I’m going through this alone.  No one understands me and I don’t even think I understand what I’m feeling.  Where do I begin to mend this broken heart?

JUNE 10, 2005 entry taken from my previous blog

After getting home from jogging I decided to give Skecher his meds. Little did I know that I would find him near his food bowl 'sleeping'. I yelled for help, but alas, Skecher had passed. My best friend was no longer with us and a feeling of utter sadness came over me. The night Skecher passed, I cried myself to sleep.

Skecher came into our lives on April 6, 2003 at 6 months of age. He left this earth June 9, 2005 but will remain in our hearts forever.

Maybe this was for the best. The day before we had gone to Skecher's vet for a follow up appointment on his sticky eye. The sticky eye had cleared up but the vet noticed the significant weight gain. We had an x-ray done and long story short, the vet wanted to do a biopsy on Skecher. She had reason to believe that he wasn't just fat/obese, but that the mass in his abdomen could be cancer. And you could see that his little body was working doubly hard to do the regular things he did. We thought it was old age, but at this point, who knows.

I loved that hamster so much, but then again who wouldn't have? Those big black eyes and tan/white fur could melt anyone's heart. But it's a relief to know that he's not hurting anymore and that's what really matters.
